Things Are Going To Be Different This Time
Looks like this is the beginning of a new era for me. Recently my website was hacked and I found myself having to start over again from scratch.
Though I regret losing all my old post, it really isn’t that big of a deal due to the fact that I wasn’t using this site the way I probably should be in the first place.
It’s easy to forget you even have a website when you find yourself relying on Facebook for all social interaction. So from now on I am going to try a different approach. In doing so I may piss a few more people off then I ordinarily do as well as put into jeopardy the enormous amount of music that I sell [sic] but I’m tired of hosting a website that doesn’t really feel like a complete representation of who I am.
Years ago I made a business decision not to insert politics into my live performances that I think all stems from a Bruce Springsteen concert I attended one summer. I had paid good money to hear “The Boss’” music not a John Kerry political commercial or whatever it was he was ranting about at the time. And it wasn’t just me. Scores of people were yelling ” just shut up and sing” (I left out the expletives).
Now I don’t believe that I’ve ever been guilty of it but ever since then I’ve made a conscious effort to avoid voicing my political views at any venue where I perform (excluding political events of course). Not only is it disrespectful to the venue owner but I want my music to appeal to everyone and I can promise you, Springsteen never got another dime of my money. He just never sounded the same after that.
But I now realize that extending that practice to my website is foolish. No one is paying to be here nor or they held captive. They can click off at any time.
Don’t get me wrong. I am not nor do I ever plan to be a political pundit. I’m simply going to quit walking on eggshells when it comes to the content I post. In doing so I’m hoping it will make it more interesting for me to spend time on it, which in turn will force me to do more to prevent another hacking.
